This dedicated video capture app is designed to cater to the needs of professionals, offering a range of features that are sure to impress even the most discerning videographers.
ProRes and Log Support for iPhone 15 Pro
While Halide was focused on taking advantage of Apple’s RAW photography support on newer iPhones, Kino is specifically targeting the iPhone 15 Pro’s support for ProRes videos encoded in the Log format. This super flat color profile is favored by videographers for its ability to give them greater control over the final look of their videos. With Kino, users can now shoot videos in ProRes format within the app and easily apply grade presets for a professional finish.
One of the standout features of Kino is the “Instant Grade” feature, which allows users to apply grade presets to their footage as they shoot. Additionally, the app includes AutoMotion, which automatically selects the best exposure settings for achieving cinematic motion blur. Users can also add Look Up Tables (LUTs) to alter the look of their footage using mathematical formulas, including the ability to add custom LUTs.
Developers of Kino have made it clear that the app does not gather or collect any data from users, nor does it analyze videos or photos. There is no generative AI training integrated into the app, ensuring that user privacy is protected. This commitment to privacy sets Kino apart from other video capture apps on the market.
Kino will be available in the App Store for an introductory price of $9.99 until Friday, after which it will cost $19.99. While Log support is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, the app is compatible with any device running iOS 17 or higher.
