Valorant Coming to Consoles in Limited Beta

Riot’s popular tactical shooter, Valorant, has been a PC-exclusive title since its launch in 2020. However, fans will soon have the opportunity to play the game on consoles as the developer has announced a limited beta for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S starting on June 14th.

The console beta will be restricted to certain regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Riot has hinted at a possible global rollout shortly after the initial beta release. While the full launch date remains unknown, players in the specified regions can register for the beta to get a taste of the console version of Valorant.

Riot has promised that the console versions of Valorant will offer “custom-built gameplay” tailored for controllers. However, the developer has decided against enabling crossplay between console and PC due to competitive reasons. On the bright side, the game will support cross-progression, allowing players to retain their skins and progression across both platforms.

Production director, Arnar Hrafn Gylfason, emphasized the importance of maintaining Valorant’s core competitive gameplay experience on consoles. He stated, “We were adamant that Valorant’s core, competitive gameplay must feel natural on a controller. And – if we couldn’t deliver on that gameplay promise – we had to be prepared to walk away from it. We hope we nailed it, but ultimately, our players will have the final say.”

In addition to the console beta, Riot also announced a mobile version of Valorant in 2021. However, there has been limited information regarding the mobile release since the initial announcement. Fans of the game can look forward to experiencing Valorant on multiple platforms in the near future.

Overall, the expansion of Valorant to consoles marks an exciting new chapter for the popular shooter. With the upcoming limited beta on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, players will have the opportunity to explore a new way to enjoy the competitive gameplay that Valorant is known for. Stay tuned for more updates on the console and mobile versions of Valorant as Riot continues to expand the game’s reach across different platforms.
