The Remastered OneShot: A New Experience for Fans

The Remastered OneShot: A New Experience for Fans

The remastered version of OneShot, called OneShot: World Machine Edition, is set to release on PC this month. This version has already been available on Nintendo Switch since 2022 but will soon be reaching Steam on September 30th. According to developers Future Cat, this edition has been completely rebuilt for modern portable consoles, featuring a new engine, new UI, new hidden collectibles, support for more platforms, and more.

Originally made in RPGMaker, OneShot pushed the limits of the engine to create a unique experience that resonated with players. The game’s self-aware nature, which often broke the fourth wall, created an immersive experience for players. However, due to its PC-centric quirks, the original game was not playable on consoles. This remastered edition aims to address that issue and bring the game to a wider audience.

The remastered version of OneShot offers several new features, including a gallery with character backstories, a “music box”, a viewer for game art, and a selection of wallpapers for a fictional operating system within the game. Additionally, the game is now Steam Deck compatible, making it a great option for players looking for a handheld way to replay the beloved puzzle RPG.

While the remastered edition promises to bring the magic of OneShot to new platforms, some fans may be concerned that certain aspects of the original game will be diluted in this version. For example, the need to navigate the file directories of the player’s own desktop was a unique and immersive aspect of the original game. However, the fictional OS portrayed in the trailer for the remastered edition aims to recreate this experience in a way that makes sense for Steam Deck and Switch users.

For fans of the original game who are considering purchasing the remastered version, it may be worth noting that owners of the original game will receive a 50% discount on Steam during the first week after launch. While it remains to be seen whether this edition will capture the same essence of the original game, new players looking to experience OneShot for the first time may find this remastered version to be the perfect way to immerse themselves in this captivating world.
