Frostpunk 2, the highly anticipated chilly survival city builder, is set to launch on July 25th. However, if you can’t wait that long to experience the frozen wastelands, there is an option to participate in the beta version. The beta will be available from April 15th to the 22nd, but there’s a catch – you need to pre-order the digital deluxe edition to gain access.
The beta version of Frostpunk 2 will feature a “part of the sandbox mode called the Utopia Builder Preview”, as announced by 11bit. This preview will be available in English and Simplified Chinese only, unlike the full release which will support multiple languages. Players are also advised to check the system requirements that were revealed last month, as they are not expected to be overly demanding.
Unlike its predecessor, Frostpunk 2 will shift its focus from basic survival needs like heat, power, and starvation to a more complex social survival aspect. Players will now have to navigate issues of tension and conflict within the community they are leading. The introduction of the Council Hall will allow players to pass laws that impact the overall equality within the city, such as decisions regarding the treatment of children in the society.
In Frostpunk 2, players will no longer have sole control over decision-making. The citizens within the game will have expectations of being heard and involved in shaping the city’s future. Stokalski, one of the developers, emphasizes the importance of the Council Hall in influencing the direction of the game, even more so than the central generator. This shift towards a more democratic approach adds a new layer of complexity to the gameplay.
While the opportunity to participate in the beta version of Frostpunk 2 may be enticing, it comes at a cost. Players are required to pre-order the digital deluxe edition, which is priced at 56.69 pounds, 67.49 dollars, or 67.49 euros. This investment may seem steep for a game that is still in development and could potentially be available through a subscription service like Game Pass on its release date.
