Google to Release Three Models of Pixel 9 in 2024

Google is planning to change up its smartphone strategy in 2024 by unveiling three different models of the upcoming Pixel 9. According to 91mobiles, the renders published earlier this year by OnLeaks were actually of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, not the regular Pixel 9. The standard Pixel 9 design is now being shared for the first time in new images today.

Design Changes

The standard Pixel 9 deviates from the curved design of previous models, featuring flat edges instead. The display corners are also more rounded than ever before. Google seems to be following a similar strategy to Apple by splitting the Pro tier into two different sizes and bringing back the XL moniker for larger devices.

The renders suggest that all three devices will have different screen sizes:
– Pixel 9 Pro XL: 6.5-inch display
– Pixel 9 Pro: 6.1-inch display
– Pixel 9: 6.03-inch display

This means a slight reduction in size for the XL model compared to the current Pixel 8 Pro with a 6.7-inch display. The decision to offer a smaller size option may cater to consumers who find larger phones unwieldy.

Both the “Pro” Pixel 9 models will feature a triple-camera system on the back. This is good news for those who have been waiting for Google to provide top-tier photography capabilities in a more compact device. However, it is important to note that the release of the new flagship Pixels is still several months away, and Google has other devices on the horizon before then.

Before the launch of the Pixel 9, Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 8A and Pixel Fold 2. Both of these devices could be announced during the company’s I/O keynote in May. Google’s shift in smartphone strategy and the introduction of multiple Pixel 9 models indicate the company’s desire to cater to a wider range of consumers with varying preferences in terms of design and features.
