Ikea has recently announced the release of a new range of gaming furniture that breaks away from the traditional dark and edgy “gamer” aesthetic. The Brännboll collection consists of 20 items, including desks, chairs, accessories, and storage solutions, all designed to blend seamlessly with your existing home decor.
Unlike the previous mostly-black ROG collaboration, the Brännboll collection features designs that are simple and distinctly Scandinavian. The main focus is on seating options, such as an armchair that can fold out into a lounging position, a rocking-style chair that moves with your body’s motion, and an inflatable donut-style chair with a matching footstool.
In addition to seating, the collection also includes a “gaming station” that can fold away into a wardrobe-like structure. This station comes with a foldable tabletop, integrated PC tower storage, and cable management. There is also a storage box that doubles as a side table, display shelving, and various textile accessories like mousepads, rugs, and throws.
Inspiration Behind the Collection
The Brännboll collection draws inspiration from street sports and athleisure, incorporating a mix of neutral tones and bright colors that can easily fit into modern homes. According to Philip Dilé, an Ikea product design developer, the idea behind the collection is to make gaming accessible to everyone and to create spaces that can adapt to gaming, living, and everything in between.
While the press images may mostly feature children, Dilé has confirmed that the Brännboll collection is age-inclusive and suitable for adults as well. Although pricing has not been released yet, Ikea promises to provide more information on the collection before its September launch date.
Ikea’s new gaming furniture collection offers a fresh take on traditional gamer aesthetics, providing functional and stylish pieces that can seamlessly integrate into any home environment. With a focus on inclusivity and versatility, the Brännboll collection is set to revolutionize the way we approach gaming furniture.
