Open Roads Game Release Date Delayed: What to Expect

Open Roads, the highly anticipated story-driven game about a mother and daughter embarking on a road trip to uncover their family’s past, has unfortunately experienced a setback. Originally set to release on February 22nd, the game has been delayed by just over a month, with the new release date now scheduled for March 28th. Despite the disappointment of the delay, fans can still look forward to a unique and immersive gaming experience.

When Open Roads was initially announced in late 2020, it immediately caught the attention of gamers with its impressive voice cast. Kaitlyn Dever, known for her role in the film “Booksmart,” lends her talents to the character of teenager Tess, while Keri Russell from “The Americans” takes on the role of Tess’ mother, Opal. The chemistry between the voice actors is expected to bring the characters to life and enhance the emotional depth of the story.

The heart of Open Roads lies in the mother-daughter duo’s journey through abandoned family homes and other significant locations. As players guide Tess and Opal through these places, they will uncover secrets that shed light on their family’s history. The combination of first-person environments and hand animation creates a visually stunning backdrop for the immersive gameplay experience. Additionally, the interactive dialogue between the two characters adds depth and realism to their relationship.

Open Roads is being developed by Fullbright, the studio known for its narrative-driven games such as Gone Home and Tacoma. However, the game faced development challenges when allegations of “toxic” behavior against Fullbright co-founder Steve Gaynor surfaced. As a result, Gaynor stepped back from the development process but continued to contribute to the game’s writing. Interestingly, Gaynor now develops under the name of Fullbright as a one-person studio, while Open Roads is credited to “The Open Roads Team” consisting of developers from Gone Home and Tacoma. The exact credits for the team’s contribution to future games remain uncertain.

Publishers Annapurna Interactive stated that the decision to delay Open Roads was made in order to ensure the highest level of polish for players. It is understandable that the developers want to deliver a game that meets or exceeds the expectations of their dedicated fanbase. While delays are often disappointing, they can ultimately result in a more refined and enjoyable gaming experience.

The delay of Open Roads may have been disheartening for fans eagerly awaiting its release. However, this setback allows the developers to fine-tune the game, guaranteeing a polished and immersive experience for players. With stellar voice acting, an engaging story, and visually captivating environments, Open Roads promises to take players on an unforgettable road trip of discovery. So mark your calendars for March 28th and get ready to embark on a journey like no other.
