The team behind the game, Worldwalker Games, has declared that active development on Wildermyth is complete, and while they will continue to provide support and fix critical bugs, fans should not expect any new content in the future.
In a statement from Nate Austin, studio co-owner of Worldwalker Games, it was revealed that the team will be bidding farewell to many of its members as they enter a period of hibernation. The decision to pause active development on Wildermyth was not made due to the performance of Omenroad, which reportedly is “doing quite well”. Instead, Austin explained that the team feels it is time to move on from this project after dedicating 11 years to its creation.
Although the announcement may sound like the end of an era for Worldwalker Games, Austin hinted that this may not be the final chapter for the studio. While there is no concrete timeline for their return, Austin expressed confidence that the team will eventually find a new project to pour their passion into. He mentioned that the only way they know how to discover their next endeavor is by taking some time to explore new ideas and opportunities, likening it to venturing into a metaphorical wilderness.
Despite the team’s admirable dedication to Wildermyth over the past decade, Austin admitted that they are not eager to pursue a sequel to the game. This decision signifies a desire for fresh challenges and creative endeavors after completing their work on the original game. In a previous interview with PC Gamer in 2022, the Worldwalker team provided insights into the extensive development process that shaped Wildermyth into the beloved RPG it is today.
The Omenroad DLC marks a significant milestone for Wildermyth as it transitions into a new phase of its existence. While fans may lament the end of new content updates, the legacy of Wildermyth will endure as a testament to the passion and creativity of the team at Worldwalker Games.
