Living in the age of social media means that we have a trail of posts stretching back through the years. While this can be nostalgic, it can also bring up embarrassing and awkward memories. Maybe your old Twitter takes haven’t aged well, or there are ex-partners you’d rather forget. These past posts can come back to haunt you, especially when heading for a job interview.
Deleting your ancient social media posts is not as difficult as it may seem. You can find and delete these posts on platforms like Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram. These are the places where you are most likely to have posted content that you’ve long since forgotten about.
Facebook, which has been available to the public for close to 20 years now, is often the platform where you’ll find your oldest posts. To locate and delete these posts, start by opening Facebook on the web. Select your name to view your profile and click on the Filters button to find posts from the year you joined Facebook. If you are using the mobile app, scroll down to your posts and tap the Filters link to narrow down your search.
If you don’t remember when you joined Facebook, you can find out by going to your profile picture and selecting Settings & Privacy > Settings. Look for the Account Center and navigate to Your Information and Permissions > Access Your Information > Personal Information. Your account creation date will be displayed there.
On X, previously known as Twitter, you can easily access and delete your old tweets. Use the platform’s built-in search engine to locate your oldest tweets by typing (from:username) until:yyyy-mm-dd since:yyyy-mm-dd. To delete a tweet, click the three dots next to it and select Delete. You can also find out when you joined X by going to your profile on the web.
Instagram, a platform that has been around since 2010, is another place where your ancient posts may be lurking. Use the Instagram app on mobile to access and delete your old posts. By tapping on Your activity > Posts and selecting Oldest to newest, you can easily find your first-ever Instagram posts. If you come across something you’d rather not have on your profile, simply tap on the post, click the three dots, and choose Delete.
It is essential to delete your ancient social media posts to avoid any embarrassing or problematic situations. Whether you’re looking to clean up your online presence for personal or professional reasons, taking the time to review and delete old posts can help you present yourself in the best light possible. So, don’t wait any longer – start cleaning up your social media today!
