Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for PC – No PSN Account Required for Single-Player Campaign

After the recent controversy surrounding Helldivers 2 requiring players to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut has made it clear that you won’t need a PSN account to play its single-player campaign on PC. However, playing multiplayer is a different story.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be hitting PC on May 16th with an expanded version of the 2020 samurai adventure. Players will have the opportunity to earn PlayStation trophies while playing, in addition to Steam or Epic achievements. The game will also feature a new PlayStation overlay accessible in-game by pressing Shift + F1, allowing for cross-platform play with console players via a PlayStation friends list.

Sucker Punch, the developers of Ghost of Tsushima, have confirmed that a PlayStation Network account will not be required to play the single-player campaign of the upcoming PC release. This decision comes in the aftermath of the Helldivers 2 incident, where mandatory PSN account-linking on Steam was met with backlash and subsequently reversed.

While players won’t need a PSN account for the single-player campaign, those interested in the co-op multiplayer mode, Legends, will need to create a PSN account to access it. This decision is likely tied to the integration of Legends with the cross-platform PlayStation friends list.

Having previously played Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation, I found both the single-player open-world action and the Legends multiplayer mode enjoyable. However, Legends is optional and can be skipped if you prefer to focus on the main campaign. If the requirement for a PlayStation account is a deciding factor for you, rest assured that sticking to the single-player experience won’t leave you feeling like you’re missing out.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for PC offers a promising experience for players without the need for a PlayStation Network account to enjoy the single-player campaign. While multiplayer enthusiasts will need to create a PSN account for access to the Legends mode, the overall availability of cross-platform play and PlayStation trophy support adds value to the PC release. The decision to separate single-player and multiplayer requirements demonstrates a clear understanding of player preferences and accessibility in the gaming community.
