Intel has unveiled its latest flagship Core i9-14900KS processor, boasting impressive clock speeds that reach up to 6.2GHz. This marks a significant improvement over the previous Core i9-13900KS, which was the first desktop processor to break the 6GHz barrier at stock speeds. Priced at $699, the Core i9-14900KS offers a 200MHz boost in clock speeds compared to its predecessor, making it a promising option for high-performance computing tasks.

The Core i9-14900KS maintains the same 24 cores as the 14900K, with a configuration of eight performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. However, it operates at a base power of 150 watts, slightly higher than the 125 watts of the 14900K. Despite this difference, the 14900KS is nearly identical to the 14900K, with the main distinction being its higher clock speed. This “binned” version has been specifically chosen to run at a faster pace, offering users a potential for overclocking to achieve even greater speeds.

Intel claims that the Core i9-14900KS delivers up to 15 percent better gaming performance than the 13900KS and up to 73 percent improvement for 3D production multitasking workflows compared to AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X. This suggests that the 14900KS might outperform AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D in certain games, as indicated by Intel’s own benchmarks. It will be interesting to observe how the 14900KS competes with AMD’s offering, especially considering the Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s recent success in PC gaming performance.

The Core i9-14900KS is expected to be one of the final processors utilizing the LGA 1700 socket, as Intel transitions to a new socket for its forthcoming CPU lineup. Retailers are now stocking the 14900KS for $699, making it readily accessible to consumers both as a standalone purchase and pre-installed in OEM systems.
